Inhalt:Review of the physical properties of molecules. Theory of chemical binding: covalent, ionic and van der Waals bonds. Molecular orbitals and molecular states; configuration interaction. Molecular symmetry. Fundamentals of Quantum Chemistry. Born-Oppenheimer approximation: the separation of electronic, vibrational and rotational degrees of freedom. Absorption of light and spectroscopic methods for the determining the energy levels. Transitions between excited levels: photophysical and photochemical processes.

The lecture is particularly intended for students coming out of a physics programm. Students with an education in a chemistry department will only need selected topics.
