"Single-electron model of direct laser acceleration in plasma channels" M. Schmitz, H.-J. KullLaser Physics 12 (2), 443-448 (2002) Abstract: Direct laser acceleration (DLA) of electrons in relativistic plasma channels is analysed in terms of a single-electron model. The model is based on a channel with uniform charge and current densities. The energy spectrum is studied by particle simulations. The formation of a stationary exponentially decaying energy distribution is obtained. It can be explained by direct laser acceleration with different detunings from the resonance frequency of the channel. The effective temperatures of the accelerated electrons scale linearly with the laser amplitude in accordance with previous plasma simulations and experiments. The emission of radiation from channeling electrons is obtained from a local analysis of the oscillatory motion near the turning points. It is found that radiation is emitted as a series of ultrashort pulses within a narrow cone along the channel axis.
