Opt. Comm. 131 (1996) 351-358
Abstract: Time-resolved backscattering of ultrashort light pulses from scattering media isinvestigated with regard to potential application in the diagnosis of human skin. ATi:sapphire laser based system is presented which allows recording the backscatteredlight with a depth resolution of ~10um. Under conditions similar to those of human skin, the system is able to record scattered light from depths of up to 1mm. Monte-Carlosimulations in combination with detailed experiments are used to explain the influenceof various experimental parameters on the backscattering signal. By this comparison, the scattering properties of the latex suspensions used as a reference medium couldbe determined in bulk and layered model structures.
