Abstract: Small objects embedded in highly scattering media are traced down and depicted by gated detection of bacscattered light. Using a mode-lockedTi:sapphire laser as an illuminating and gating light source, a depth resolution of about 10um can be obtained. In media with scattering properties similarto those of human skin, embedded metallic objects are imaged up to depths of 1.2mm and, over the same range of depth, the inhomogeneous scatteringparameters of porcine skin are recordable.
